The fitness test used to require that individuals complete, in just two hours, three activities that included a 3.2 km run, sit-ups, and push-ups. But, the new test has six events, which need to be finished in just 50 minutes. There are also exercises that are deemed more complex and harder to accomplish, such as drag and carry, standing power throw, and strength dead lift.

Another change is the fact that the new test’s ratings of soldiers’ abilities won’t be affected by gender or age.

The Reason for the New Test

Why did the Army decide that this new combat fitness test was necessary? Basically, a lot of commanders became concerned, over the last few years, that soldiers who were joining the Army weren’t physically fit enough to meet the demands of a real combat situation.
